BLUE MOON RISING
~ creating harmony and community through singing

Picture
OUR WINTER / SPRING SESSION BEGINS
JANUARY 20!

Blue Moon Rising
is a community choir led by Denise Wilson that welcomes all singers regardless of past experience.   Those who are new to the exploration of their voices and seasoned singers come together weekly to experience the magic of communal music-making.  Gathering to sing in a fun and relaxed environment is good medicine for the body, mind and spirit!

The incredible recent growth in the number and size of community choirs in the U.S. reveals how hungry people are to sing in relaxed environments and to be part of a fun, supportive community.  We include many styles of songs, but we return often to songs that lead us towards justice for all people, towards peace, freedom and a deeper connection with ourselves, those around us, and the Earth that sustains us!

There are no auditions or a requirement to read music.  All you need is an enthusiasm for singing and a willingness to learn songs from a variety of styles and world traditions.  The songs have rich harmonies and irresistible rhythms that will lift your worries and grow your ability to sing with confidence and passion!

BE YOURSELF – WE WELCOME UNIQUENESS & DIVERSITY!
Our aim is for Blue Moon Rising to feel comfortable to every person in the choir.  We strive to cultivate vibrant community, create harmony in all its forms, and provide a welcoming space for singing and creative expression for all people. We invite you to work with us to build an inclusive culture where we support each other and are enriched by our differences.

WE WILL START A NEW SESSION OF BLUE MOON RISING ON JAN. 20
Due to Covid-19 our singing gatherings are being held on Zoom.  Until we're able to be together again, keep your voice strong and have fun singing with this warm and friendly community!

UPCOMING EVENTS
Because singing in close proximity is a dangerous activity during a pandemic, our one-time sings and special events have been suspended until we can safely come together.  And that time WILL come!

THE SONGS
The songs will cultivate an appreciation for diverse musical traditions and a deeper understanding of the people and cultures from which the songs emerged.
  • American folk songs (old and new)
  • Songs of peace, hope, and justice
  • Freedom songs - many from S. Africa
  • Uplifting chants and rounds from a variety of countries and spiritual traditions (Blue Moon Rising has no particular religious affiliation)
  • Old-time Gospel
  • Songs that are fun, funny, and full of celebration!
OUR MISSION
  • To create a welcoming space for all voices to freely join in harmony with others.  To create beautiful music!
  • To build a vibrant, supportive, and inclusive community where we have fun singing and are enriched by our differences.
  • To experience firsthand what scientists have learned about the positive physical and emotional benefits of singing.
  • To replenish and nurture the spirit.  Raising voices together creates good will, unity, harmony and common purpose.
